National Federation of Cemetery Friends

THE KENSAL GREEN MONUMENTS APPEAL, administered by
The Friends of Kensal Green Cemetery
, is dedicated to the timely
conservation of monuments of national importance within Kensal
Green Cemetery. The first to be restored with assistance from the
fund is that of the Brunel family.

A recent conservation report has identified various problems
including subsidence of the whole monument and damage to
the marble monolithic block. The estimated cost to restore the
monument to its former glory is £15,000.

Your donation will enable a specialist conservation company to
make the necessary repairs. In recognition of your generosity
your donation will be recorded in our Register of Donors and you
will be invited to the official unveiling of the restored monument.

The appeal is being supported by English Heritage, the Brunel
Museum, Brunel University, and The Royal Society:
“We are delighted to support The Friends’ campaign to renovate the
grave of two of these illustrious Fellows, Sir Marc and Isambard Kingdom
Brunel. We hope that you will join us in helping to ensure the survival of
the memorial to two of Britain’s greatest pioneering engineers.”
Lord Rees of Ludlow, President, The Royal Society.

The Royal Society will be celebrating its 350th anniversary in 2010.
Over one hundred and fifty Fellows of the Royal Society are buried
at Kensal Green Cemetery.
