Established in 1889 and run by a private company. The cemetery covers 20 acres. Since the 1960's the cemetery has been in decline. In 1993 by an Act of Parliament, provision was given that 3.3 acres could be used as a housing development and that a Trust be formed by the owner of the cemetery to ensure refurbishment and the future maintenance of the cemetery. The trustees include Newham Council and the Friends and work is now in progress.
