NEWSLETTER NO 17 APRIL 2006

problem on right of way and bridle path

The Friends of Houghton Hillside Cemetery hope that their problem of the rights of way and a bridle path which is shown on some maps may be soon settled. After much research and consultation they are to submit an application to extinguish it to the Highways department, and to place notices at the start and the end of the right of way but giving a period of time for any objections to be made.

The friends had an unexpected Christmas present when secretary Paul Lanagan literally stumbled across seven pieces of badly damaged gravestone of an eminent rector connected with the cemetery. This was followed up by finding the lost burial plans of the cemetery in the Archives.

15th May 2006

Secretary Paul Lanagan reports serious vandalism in the cemetery and has included photographic evidence of the vandals on their web site.
