Members are invited to join in the CSV Make a Difference Day on 25th October 2008 when volunteers from CSV join the Friends on a tidy up project at the cemetery. This is the fourth year that the CSV has been in support.

Dorothy Marshall, chairman reports:

December 2007  The group has received a lottery grant which will enable them to publish an information leaflet and a commemorative booklet for the War dead in the cemetery.

On Saturday 27th October 2007 the Friends took part on the Conservation Volunteers Service/ Community Service "Make a Difference Day". Twelve members turned out complete with tools in spite of the cold weather and tidied family graves, cleared paths and collected litter.

Having the support of a larger organisation promotes public interest and raises the profile of the cemetery.

Dorothy Marshall, chairman reports: The group commemorated Remembrance Sunday in November 2006. Mr and Mrs Henry Shipley played the accompaniment to the hymns. Mr Shipley played The Last Post and the Reveille solo.

This was the first time that the group had organised such an event and 36 members of the public arrived to show their respects to the war dead buried in the cemetery.

Robert Horner [treasurer] made the cross in which 100 candles were placed to represent the number killed in action commemorated in the cemetery. The group placed 48 poppies on the CWGC and hope to repeat the event in November 2007.

NFCF NEWSLETTER NO 17    APRIL 2006

The work at the cemetery funded by the HLF and Leicester City Council is progressing well.

The interpretation area which is being constructed on the site of the originals chapel will mark 100 significant memorials in the cemetery. When the visitors' centre is in full operation later this year, the HLF representatives and the council hope that the Friends will be able to open the centre 3 days a week. Volunteers will be needed.
