Friends of Northwood Cemetery
The
cemetery is owned by the Isle of Wight council who employ a groundsman
contractor to maintain the cemetery. The two chapels at the entrance
are suffering from subsidence and heave as the Victorians planted fine
specimens of cedar tree and the roots are undermining the buildings.
The chapels are grade II listed. One of the chapels is fenced off for
reasons of safety. The Friends group, formed in 2008, hopes to raise
public awareness and grants to stabilise and repair the chapels.
