Friends of Salford Cemeteries Trust

Weaste Cemetery is one of four under the care of the Trust.  In the foreground is the grave of Sir Elkanah Armitage, cotton mill owner and former Lord Mayor of Manchester [1846 to 48] and the large monument in the background is to Joseph Brotherton, Salford's first M.P. [1832 to 1857] and Minister of the Bible Christian Church for 40 years.
The Friends have recently received a grant of £24,000 from the Countryside Agency and are to develop a Heritage and Ecological Trail in Weaste Cemetery to commemorate the opening of the cemetery.
