Members are invited to publicise events on these pages.  Events organised by non members but having appeal to cemetery conservation and heritage supporters will be considered at the discretion of the Secretary. We do not accept commercial advertising.

Weather, health and safety concerns and other issues may cause events etc to be postponed or cancelled and you are advised to contact the local group to confirm any detail nearer to the event. Please note that any guidance on health and safety should be followed and in some cases the ground may be wet, muddy and/or uneven and stout footwear and suitable clothing is essential for outdoor events such as walks. Many cemeteries were laid out in Victorian times and access may be restricted in parts for safety reasons. The closeness in the grave plots, vandalism and undergrowth may make access difficult for persons with mobility or sight problems. Cemetery managers and voluntary groups of Friends may in some cases be able to advise if there are any local facilities to assist disabled visitors such as an individual to guide a visitor [and their escort or helper] but this is best arranged prior to the proposed visit. Some cemeteries ban dogs, others may permit dogs on a lead and if you propose to take a dog please check first with either the cemetery manager or the local friends group.

Titanic and other guided walks at Southampton Old Cemetery

The Titanic headstones usually placed when a relative died later are in various states from very good to some having been vandalised. The White Star line required relatives to pay for freight charges if the body was to be returned to the home port, consequently bodies were buried at sea or taken to Halifax NS. The guided walk gives information and background of the individuals. Note the cemetery was laid out in the 1840's and the paths are irregular and in places in need of repair, the walk will include passage off recognised paths and may not be suitable for young children or visitors with disabilities.

As well as the public events, we are able to arrange, for an appropriate donation, private walks and talks for individuals and groups.
